Pip Value Calculator

Every price movement in forex is measured in pips, and every pip has a cash value that depends on the pair, the lot size and your account currency. This calculator shows you exactly what a pip — or a whole move — is worth before you enter a trade.

The Formula Behind It

Pip value = Pip size × Contract size × Lots → converted to your account currency
  • Pip size — 0.0001 for most pairs, 0.01 for JPY-quoted pairs.
  • Contract size — 100,000 units for one standard lot of a forex pair.
  • Lots — your trade size. 0.10 lots is a mini lot, 0.01 lots is a micro lot.
  • Conversion — the pip value is paid in the quote currency, so it must be converted into your account currency at the current price.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. 1

Select the currency pair you want to trade.

  2. 2

Select your account currency so the result is shown in money you actually hold.

  3. 3

Enter your trade size in lots — use 0.01 for a micro lot or 1.00 for a standard lot.

  4. 4

Enter the number of pips you want to value (for example, your stop distance or a target move).

  5. 5

For JPY-quoted pairs, enter the current price so the pip value can be converted correctly.

Worked Example

You trade 1 standard lot of EUR/USD from a USD account and want to know what a 30-pip move is worth.

One pip = 0.0001 × 100,000 = $10 per standard lot. Thirty pips = 30 × $10.

Result: $300. A 30-pip move against you on 1.00 lot costs $300; in your favour it earns $300 — before fees.

Important Risk Note

Pip values shown are gross and exclude spread, commission and swap. For JPY-quoted pairs the converted value moves with the exchange rate, so re-check it if the price has changed significantly. Educational use only.
